Description

Confluent is pioneering a fundamentally new category of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. Have you ever found a new favorite series on Netflix, picked up groceries curbside at Walmart, or paid for something using Square? That’s the power of data in motion in action—giving organizations instant access to the massive amounts of data that is constantly flowing throughout their business. At Confluent, we’re building the foundational platform for this new paradigm of data infrastructure. Our cloud-native offering is designed to be the intelligent connective tissue enabling real-time data, from multiple sources, to constantly stream across the organization. With Confluent, organizations can create a central nervous system to innovate and win in a digital-first world.

We’re looking for self-motivated team members who crave a challenge and feel energized to roll up their sleeves and help realize Confluent’s enormous potential. Chart your own path and take healthy risks as we solve big problems together. We value having diverse teams and want you to grow as we grow—whether you’re just starting out in your career or managing a large team, you’ll be amazed at the magnitude of your impact.

About the Role:

Confluent Cloud delivers a complete end-to-end streaming experience via a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. To continue its expansion and to support the public sector, Confluent Cloud is in the process of securing FedRAMP certification. The FedRAMP SRE manager will manage a team of specialized operators, own a number of critical change management and incident management processes, and work to engineer greater efficiency through reducing toil in inter-team and intra-team processes.

What You Will Do:

  • Scale a team of US-based SREs in alignment with the Confluent FedRAMP expansion rate, providing 24/7 on-call coverage for incident triaging & production fix deployment
  • Partner with the Cloud Architecture team and FedRAMP TPMs to define and implement FedRAMP change management processes using approved tools and methods
  • Validate and deploy production changes to Confluent Cloud systems and infrastructure
  • Maintain tight adherence to established incident management processes and expectations, conducting post-mortems to identify and drive improvements in your own team and across Confluent Cloud component teams
  • Be an active partner with peer engineering teams, engaging during incidents using an “escort model” to ensure compliance with FedRAMP data handling requirements
  • Engage with customer support and product management teams as needed to drive continuous improvement

What You Will Bring:

  • To comply with U.S. federal government requirements, U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience with 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • Expertise in Cloud Native technologies with experience operating production services in cloud
  • Familiarity with modern change management processes and tools (e.g. infrastructure-as-code, Terraform)
  • Previous experience with FedRAMP requirements and audits
  • Experience operating in on-call contexts with aggressive customer SLAs
  • Deep understanding of Site Reliability, public cloud infrastructure, and operating paradigms
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative technique
  • Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience. An advanced in computer science is preferred
