Confluent’s mission is to set data in motion by building the best data streaming platform available, which acts as a customer’s central data nervous system. There are two major facets of Cost Engineering.  The primary focus is driving the program of cost savings initiatives executed across multiple Engineering teams across multiple Engineering organizations.  The secondary focus is serving as the TPM for the Cost Engineering Team, which designs, develops and operates the R10N cost reporting platform.

 

About the Role:

As a Technical Program Manager (TPM), your day-to-day functions involve driving cost savings initiatives across all Engineering Organizations and their teams as well as directly supporting the Cost Engineering Manager and Development Team.

You will engage with Finance to report on progress towards contribution margin savings goals, and will drive the agenda for a monthly Cost Review meeting at the CTO level.  You will  closely monitor dependencies with other orgs, you will also help with planning, prioritization, risk management, stakeholder reporting, operations and tradeoffs. 

You will engage with TPM colleagues on annual planning and quarterly planning efforts.

You will work with the Cost Product Manager on Cloud Service Provider initiatives, where we manage our costs and savings plan programs.

You will define and drive the Cost Review Process, as a part of Project Launchpad, which provides SDLC guardrails for new product initiatives and engineering driven improvements.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with stakeholders in Engineering and Finance to drive initiatives for the company.
  • Ensure we can deliver projects on time, regularly communicating progress and status to key stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks/challenges 
  • Make technical decisions to keep projects running smoothly.
  • Explain technical architecture, decisions, and tradeoffs to both engineering and other functions.
  • Work with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to streamline and drive projects on a predictable schedule.
  • Run cross-functional meetings and drive decision-making around schedule adjustments, bug triage, and internal and external partner/customer delivery.
  • Take ownership of engaging with various engineering and product stakeholders to drive E2E execution, including understanding potential risks and alignment models for competing priorities. 

What You Will Bring:

  • Strong technical skills especially knowledge of cloud networking fundamentals. 
  • Strong sense of ownership and a bias for action is desirable
  • Prior TPM experience, a minimum of 3 years, in driving end-to-end lifecycle of complex and massive projects across organizations.
  • Experience driving cloud platform engineering cross-functional projects is desired
  • Experience driving operations across teams is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to work with engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in highly agile environments applying JIRA, SQL and Dashboarding skills
  • Coding and scripting experience is highly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

We analyze and carefully consider several factors when determining compensation, including work history, education, professional experience, and location.  This position has an annual estimated salary of $151,400 - $174,100 USD , an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
