Description

Confluent is pioneering a fundamentally new category of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. Have you ever found a new favorite series on Netflix, picked up groceries curbside at Walmart, or paid for something using Square? That’s the power of data in motion in action—giving organizations instant access to the massive amounts of data that is constantly flowing throughout their business. At Confluent, we’re building the foundational platform for this new paradigm of data infrastructure. Our cloud-native offering is designed to be the intelligent connective tissue enabling real-time data, from multiple sources, to constantly stream across the organization. With Confluent, organizations can create a central nervous system to innovate and win in a digital-first world.

We’re looking for self-motivated team members who crave a challenge and feel energized to roll up their sleeves and help realize Confluent’s enormous potential. Chart your own path and take healthy risks as we solve big problems together. We value having diverse teams and want you to grow as we grow—whether you’re just starting out in your career or managing a large team, you’ll be amazed at the magnitude of your impact.

About the Role

Due to a recent transfer within the legal team, we have an immediate opening for an enthusiastic and talented commercial technology lawyer to join our close-knit APAC legal team, with the role based out of India.

We are seeking a business-oriented lawyer with broad experience in supporting Confluent’s Sales organizations in structuring, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements together with additional responsibilities as needed in support of Confluent’s other lines of business.  Experience in local employment laws and ensuring adherence to compliance programs is also desirable.  The position reports to the Deputy  General Counsel, APAC (who is based in Sydney). Limited travel may be required. The successful candidate needs to be fluent in English.

In the legal department, we are passionate about enabling customer success, while building a strong foundation for the future. We strive to provide thoughtful and pragmatic counsel and to minimize risks as we pursue business opportunities. We are a friendly, collegiate team, and we thrive by working together when assistance is required, to solve complex challenges, supporting and learning from each other, and having fun!

What We’re Looking For

  • 5-8+ years of experience in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal  department of a multi-national company supporting business needs across a number of APAC countries
  • Significant experience negotiating technology subscription agreements, license and support agreements, and cloud services agreements with large enterprise customers
  • Experience and aptitude in working cross-functionally with internal organizations to resolve questions and concerns.
  • Experience with open-source licensing and business models
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an appreciation of different cultural sensitivities
  • Ability to use sound judgment to address complex issues while maintaining an appropriate balance between legal and business requirements
  • Ability to communicate complex contract issues in clear business terms to enable efficient resolution
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with demanding internal clients
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Excellent team player
  • Licence to practise as a legal practitioner in India

The successful candidate would be expected to work from our offices in Bangalore or Mumbai or otherwise to work remotely. Compensation will be based on experience and includes an equity component.
