With Confluent, organizations can harness the full power of continuously flowing data to innovate and win in the modern digital world. We have a purpose that drives us to do better every day -- we're creating an entirely new category within data infrastructure - data streaming. This technology will allow every organization to create experiences and use the power of data in ways that profoundly impact the way we all live. This impact is our purpose and drives us to do better every day.

One Confluent. One team. One Data Streaming Platform.

Data Connects Us.

About the Role:

We are looking for a leader to help us build the next-generation network data plane to enable our Confluent Cloud platform to achieve 10x the current scale. Cloud networking is a growing strategic investment area for Confluent. The Traffic team is responsible for the network platform of Confluent Cloud with a focus on performance, security, reliability, and cost optimizations for all network traffic that ingresses and egresses a customer'sKafka cluster as well as all internal traffic on Confluent Cloud.

In this role, you will set the vision, lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, and plan and drive cross-team initiatives to solve complex distributed systems problems at scale.

What You Will Do:

  • Own the vision and execution for the multi-tenant network data plane platform -- including, but not limited to defining the developer experience and enabling new cloud connectivity scenarios
  • Work closely with product management and other key stakeholders across various teams in Confluent Cloud to build and drive the overall roadmap
  • Deliver high impact to the business by driving important technical initiatives in areas comprising (but not limited to) security, reliability, multi-tenancy, architectural direction, and major component refactor across organizational boundaries
  • Work with engineering teams and product on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery

What You Will Bring:

  • 8+ years of software development experience with 3+ years of managing engineers
  • Expertise in building and operating large scale distributed systems in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge or experience building networking data plane components
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques
  • Ability to hire and grow the team, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management
  • A great track record of timely shipping features and have a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
