Data Connects Us.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Federal Consulting Engineer to join our Public Sector Professional Services team. As a Federal Consulting Engineer, you will help our Public Sector customers extract business value from their real-time data streams. In this role, you will interact directly with customers, contributing to implementation during any or all phases of the application lifecycle — portfolio assessment, application planning and design, deployment architectures, development and provisioning, integration and release configuration, system testing, production operations and monitoring, application optimization, and Confluent best practices recommendations.

To do this, you will provide software, development, and operations expertise that leverages your deep knowledge of best practices in the use of Apache Kafka, the Confluent platform, and complementary systems. Throughout these interactions, you will build strong relationships with your customers and ensure exemplary delivery standards. You will also have the opportunity to build state-of-the-art streaming data infrastructure, in partnership with colleagues who are widely recognized as industry leaders.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare for an upcoming engagement by discussing, with the customer and account team, goals, expectations, and agenda
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the customer, addressing technical, development, or strategic IT needs
  • Deliver on the engagement by presenting onsite or remote workshops for the customer’s architects and developers
  • Produce and deliver professional post-engagement reports for the customer
  • Deploy, augment, and upgrade Kafka clusters using kubernetes or ansible
  • Manage technical problem identification and resolution, support system architecture definition, software specification and design, testing, and deployment of open source solutions
  • Keep your Confluent account team updated on issues that may affect project or company performance
  • Hone your skills, build and/or test applications, and learn new product features

What You Will Bring:

  • Secret Clearance and Security+ Preferred
  • Experience building and operating in-production stream processing, and enterprise data integration solutions using Apache Kafka and/or other distributed systems (Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.)
  • Knowledge on DevOps and Microservices (Service Mesh)
  • Experience using cloud providers (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) for running high-throughput systems; Gov Cloud experience preferred
  • Experience operating Linux (configure, tune, and troubleshoot both RedHat and Debian-based distributions), Ansible, and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with software development, including languages, systems, and frameworks such as: Java, Spring, Python, JMS, Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to clearly and concisely explain technical issues and complex solutions
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to meet with customers
  • Bachelor-level degree in computer science, systems engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent work experience
