About the Role:

The Cloud Platform organization at Confluent is seeking a driven, get-stuff-done, owner mindset Senior Technical Program Manager. You would drive programs, platform charters, and horizontal initiatives in close partnership with technical stakeholders across a large engineering platform organization.

You are comfortable and experienced in driving and delivering highly complex projects on time, especially cloud infrastructure or platform projects with cross-team dependencies. These projects typically span multiple quarters across multiple teams, functions, and geographies. 

What You Will Do:

  • Platform engineering project management – Take the lead in delivering platform capabilities including evolving our architecture to serve product use cases and go-to-market timelines.
  • Planning – Drive OKR quarterly/annual planning, resourcing, and roadmap decisions, advocating for platform scale, reliability, performance, and other synergies.
  • Execution – Set up OKR tracking and reporting cadence plus automation rhythms using JIRA, Slack, Confluence wiki. Lead execution with best practices TPM rigor to ensure that we are able to deliver projects on time with less organizational friction.
  • Security operations – Manage business continuity needs for the group with tracking security conmon, fleet rehydration, vulnerability fixes management.
  • System health operations – Put processes in place to drive SLO/A service/system health tracking and drive down remediation trends of severity issues through a rigorous incident management process in pre-prod and prod.
  • Dashboards & reports – Build dashboards and reports to track metrics and KPIs for measuring project OKRs weekly, QoQ trends and progress over time.
  • Risk management –  Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve roadblocks/challenges affecting projects especially with respect to cross-team dependencies.
  • Scale others – Train and help other engineering leaders to become better in program management, JIRA tracking, and planning.
  • Technical expertise – Understand the system/application stack well enough to discuss tradeoffs and mitigate risks and scope-creep concerns. Explain technical architecture, technical choices, decisions, and tradeoffs to engineering, product, and support functions.  

What You Will Bring:

  • Prior TPM experience (3-5 years) of driving complex projects that are multiphase, multi-quarter, spanning many eng teams/orgs projects in cloud infrastructure or platform enterprise engineering.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to work with both engineering leadership and other non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing 3 or more cross-functional programs simultaneously while juggling other operational priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills with project planning, risk management, stakeholder collaboration, visibility management, weekly project tracking and reporting.
  • Strong technical understanding of backend distributed systems. Has worked on prior projects involving cloud infrastructure lifecycle and Kubernetes orchestration on Amazon, Google, Azure clouds.
  • Experience in using JIRA to build reports and dashboards for tracking metrics and KPIs in one or more tools (JIRA, Tableau, LookerStudio, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in workflow automation tools such as JIRA, Confluence Wiki, Slack, g-suite.

We analyze and carefully consider several factors when determining compensation, including work history, education, professional experience, and location. This position has an annual estimated salary of $176,700 - 207,630 USD and a competitive equity package. The actual pay may vary depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Confluent offers a wide range of employee benefits.
