Description

Confluent is pioneering a fundamentally new category of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. Have you ever found a new favorite series on Netflix, picked up groceries curbside at Walmart, or paid for something using Square? That’s the power of data in motion in action—giving organizations instant access to the massive amounts of data that is constantly flowing throughout their business. At Confluent, we’re building the foundational platform for this new paradigm of data infrastructure. Our cloud-native offering is designed to be the intelligent connective tissue enabling real-time data, from multiple sources, to constantly stream across the organization. With Confluent, organizations can create a central nervous system to innovate and win in a digital-first world.

We’re looking for self-motivated team members who crave a challenge and feel energized to roll up their sleeves and help realize Confluent’s enormous potential. Chart your own path and take healthy risks as we solve big problems together. We value having diverse teams and want you to grow as we grow—whether you’re just starting out in your career or managing a large team, you’ll be amazed at the magnitude of your impact.

About the Role:

We are looking for a leader to help us build the next-generation Events Platform to enable our Confluent Cloud platform to achieve 10x the current scale. The events platform enables services in our control plane to connect with managed services like Kafka clusters in a secure, reliable, and scalable manner. This platform is a tier-0 infrastructure and acts as a bridge between the Control Plane and the Data Plane. This team is critical to the overall experience that Confluent customers observe while performing Control Plane operations like provisioning clusters. In this role, you will set the vision, lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, and plan and drive cross-team initiatives to solve complex distributed systems problems at scale.

What You Will Do:

  • Own the overall vision and execution for the Events Platform team -- including, but not limited to defining the developer experience and building the next-generation platform
  • Work closely with product management and other key stakeholders across various teams in Confluent Cloud to build and drive the overall roadmap
  • Deliver high impact to the business by driving important technical initiatives in areas comprising (but not limited to) security, reliability, multi-tenancy, architectural direction, and major component refactor across organizational boundaries
  • Work with engineering teams and product on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery

What You Will Bring:

  • 10+ years of software development with 5+ years of management experience
Expertise in building and operating large scale distributed systems in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in public cloud events, messaging, or streaming services like Amazon Kinesis, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, etc., or storage services like Amazon DynamoDB, Google Cloud Spanner, etc.
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques
  • Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management
  • A great track record of timely shipping features and have a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
