About the Role:
The Director, Revenue Accounting Operations plays a key leadership role in Confluent’s revenue recognition and order to cash process. You will lead the Revenue Accounting Operations team and will partner with Sales Ops, FP&A, Technical Revenue, Accounts Receivable, as well as many other cross-functional business partners. In this role, you will ensure the timeliness and accuracy of our revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, ASC 340, our internal accounting policies, and SEC reporting deadlines. You will achieve this by developing and mentoring both the US Corporate revenue operations team and the Shared Services team in India. You will champion our SOX controls and drive scalable process improvements. You will also be involved in the operationalization of new revenue products and policies.
The ideal candidate is an experienced CPA with at least 12 years of progressively responsible experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm and a publicly traded, high-tech organization with a minimum of 7 years in revenue specific roles. You should have experience from a global, growing software company that has on-premise software revenue and SaaS.
What You Will Do:
Own and lead the global revenue close and reporting process, including the review of key controls, reconciliations, and other various forecast and reporting deliverables
Propose and lead through to completion significant process improvements, including automations and system implementations
Play a critical role, in collaboration with FP&A and other teams, in the Company’s quarterly revenue forecasting process
Develop and train a growing Revenue Accounting Operations Team, across both US and India teams. Execute on a clear roadmap of workload allocation between global teams, maximizing efficiency and decreasing risk
Review and provide thought leadership on revenue accounting policies and processes to maximize revenue results and team productivity
Manage clean execution of internal controls and continue a focus on improving SOX coverage
Act as a subject matter expert in accounting for usage-based SaaS contracts, on-premise term licenses, related professional services and education
Partner with the Accounts Receivable team, obtain a deep understanding of billing processes and associated revenue recognition impacts downstream
What You Will Bring:
BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
CPA certification or equivalent practical experience
12 years of progressively responsible experience at either a Big 4 public accounting firm or a global, publicly traded high-tech organization with a minimum of 7 years in a revenue role
Experience in a leadership role in revenue accounting operations at a publicly-traded company
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, primarily revenue recognition (ASC 606) as it applies to on-premise software revenue and SaaSExperience with revenue system or ERP implementations or significant enhancement projects
Attention to detail and experience multitasking and prioritizing to deliver impact in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, including the ability to research accounting literature and simplify complex situations
Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written) and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels at the company
Strong Excel skills
Experience using Netsuite, Netsuite ARM, and/or other revenue accounting systems
Usage-based SaaS contract experience a strong plus
